We are doing and short and simple version of science fair projects this fall. We just finished the Variables unit, and I suggested experiments kids could do that extended ideas we did in class using pendulums, boats, planes, and catapults.

We are ALL DONE with genre worksheets, including the redoes. (Kids have to keep working on them until they get at least 80%.)

Four students have already turned in worksheets, more than a week early. Amazing!

For students who are still working on their books, I recommend that they open a worksheet file on the computer NOW if they haven't already. They should answer at least one question each day. Remind them that they don't have to answer questions in order. After all, we didn't answer questions in order

Our class is starting a new science unit called the FOSS Variables Module. We'll be learning about the essential elements of performing experiments.

You should be able to go through your child's 3-ring binder now and find helpful information in nearly every section. We've been adding pieces and discussing them daily. One of the most important parts of the binder for YOU is at the front. The pocket in the front (or the front section) is where I send papers home.

We just spent several days on learning advanced techniques for persuasive writing. I told the class they were learning how to argue effectively with adults. They thought I was being a traitor to my team. I said not really. Parents would rather have their children present their case logically, rationally, persuasively instead of emotionally and dramatically, with tears and tantrums and begging and slammed doors. I hope these lessons help you at home!

We figured out due dates for the oral book reports for the third trimester--the last reading due dates for the year! I added the due dates to the May calendar page and posted the updated calendar on the elementary stuff page. Now is a good time to print the May page and post it on your refrigerator!
